Meeting on Good Governance, Rule of Law and Human Rights was convened in Islamabad
Both the organizations reaffirmed their commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights, while recognizing the need for further action on a number of human rights issues.
The monitoring mission, assessed the progress, and provided an additional platform for continued engagement on human rights and women rights issues. On this occasion both sides acknowledged that freedom of association and assembly and an enabling civic space are crucial components of any democracy. The two sides committed to protect human rights defenders from violence and harassment, ensure the freedom for civil society. Both sides expressed concern at the reported cases of violations and abuses of human rights and international humanitarian laws, and highlighted the need to ensure that perpetrators are held to account.
The Mubashir Bhutta Advocate highlighted the importance of the Joint Program on Human Rights which supports the commitments in the area’s human rights violations, civic space, national reporting mechanism. They reaffirmed its continued support and the strengthening the collaboration. The co-chairs recognized the strong collaboration between the organizations in peacebuilding in and in fostering human rights.
The organizations underscored its priorities to boost the efficiency of the criminal justice system. And The commitments to address alleged extra-judicial killings, provide remedies for victims and hold perpetrators accountable.
